First Greater Manchester Community Radio Network
Community Radio stations in Greater Manchester are getting together to
launch the first network for community radio stations in the North West.
Up to 15 radio stations and projects in Greater Manchester will get
together and discuss how to overcome common problems by sharing skills,
knowledge and resources. Since 2004, when Ofcom published the community
radio order, freeing frequencies nationwide for community radio
stations, the sector has seen a huge development in the Greater
Manchester area. Only last week, new long-term community radio licenses
were granted to three stations in Greater Manchester, and more will be
allocated in the next few weeks.
Diane Reid from the Community Media Association, Simon Patterson from
BBC GMR and representatives from other organizations and agencies will
be attending. Zane Ibrahim, the founder of Bush Radio in Cape Town, will
also be among the speakers.
The event, organized by the Greater Manchester Centre for Voluntary
Organisations (GMCVO) and Radio Regen, will take place at GMCVO on 23rd
September 2005 from 10:00am until 4:00pm.
