1.EU DEFIES US TO END SANCTIONS
The European Union voted on Thursday to remove its diplomatic sanctions against
Cuba despite opposition from the United States.
Leading up to the vote, US State Department Deputy spokesman Tom Casey said.
"We would not be supportive of the EU or anyone else easing those restrictions
at this time."
Spain led the push inside the European Union to drop the sanctions. Commenting
on the vote, Spain's foreign minister, Miguel Angel Moratinos, said, "The
United States has its policy on Cuba. We don't share it ... In the end, we have
our interests and our autonomy in foreign policy."

2. CSC LETTER ON RISE BAN
Dear friends,
You may have read reports in the press regarding CSC and the Rise Festival.
Unfortunately, Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London has decided to stop the CSC
Latin American music stage at the festival in July. We have protested this
decision but unfortunately we have to notify you that we will not be able to
run the Big Cuba Fiesta stage this year.
In the light of the Mayor's decision, our partners in the event, Unite the
Union, have also now withdrawn their support from the festival.
We are extremely sorry for the late notice but as you will appreciate this
matter is completely beyond our control. A huge thank you to all who have
volunteered their support over the years with this event.
We do ask you to protest this decision to Boris Johnson at:
