Dear Mark,
 
The EU Council of Ministers meeting on *16th June* will discuss the 
sanctions against Cuba.  In the run up to the vote it is crucial that we 
can get as much support as possible behind EDM 1405 which calls for the 
elimination of sanctions against Cuba.  At present the EDM has been 
supported by 107 MPs.  It would be very helpful if you could get members 
of the Manchester CSC to contacts MPs in the Manchester area who have 
yet to sign the EDM and ask them to do so.  I have listed the Manchester 
MPs and their positions on EDM 1405 below.
 
If you can ask individual members of Manchester CSC to contact their 
respective constituency MPs and ask them to sign EDM 1405 that would be 
massively helpful.  Graham Stringer and Gerald Kaufman have previously 
been supportive of Cuba in the past.

*EUROPEAN UNION SANCTIONS AGAINST CUBA*

*That this House welcomes the recognition by Louis Michel, European 
Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, who recently visited 
Cuba, that European Union sanctions against Cuba are the fundamental 
obstacle to the advancement of relations with Cuba and should be 
eliminated; congratulates Cuba on its decision to sign two UN human 
rights treaties, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and 
Cultural Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political 
Rights, and the decision to voluntarily allow UN human rights observers 
to make regular visits to Cuba; notes that a large majority of European 
Union member states are in favour of lifting European Union sanctions 
against Cuba; and urges the UK Government to vote to eliminate all 
sanctions against Cuba at the forthcoming Council of Europe meeting in 
July.*
