MUSICAL ACCOMPANIMENT
Director Sergei Eisenstein USSR 1925 82 mins
Silent film with Eng Intertitles
Cast: Grigori Aleksandrov, Aleksandr Antonov, Yudif
Glizer
Director Sergei Eisenstein’s first film set the
standard for all that followed: impassioned agit-prop
built around avant-garde cinematography and editing.
This silent film tells the story of a strike by
factory workers in the Tsarist Russia of 1912 and its
brutal suppression. A factory worker, unrightfully
accused of stealing, commits suicide inside the
factory. His comrades soon find out the reasons
behind his desperate action and they decide to
organise a strike. However, the management reject
their demands and decide to break the strike by any
means necessary.
+ Special guests: Following a recent screening at the
Barbican, five-piece Italian folk-rock band Yo Yo
Mundi perform live their specially created
instrumental score for this classic of Soviet Cinema.

Director Mark Daniels
Director Mark Daniels FR 2005 92 mins (in English)
The invasion of Iraq produced thousands of hours of
video, all of it tightly controlled. This incisive
documentary traces the way US television has covered
war, from the messy invasion of Vietnam into American
living rooms to the sanitisation of combat in recent
conflicts. This film premiered at the Sheffield
International Documentary Festival (www.sidf.co.uk).
+ Special guest: Cornerhouse are pleased to welcome
director Mark Daniels for a Q&A session following this
screening.
Tickets: £5.10 full / £3.70 concessions
