Stop ID Cards Campaign
IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED

On the 28th of June the ID cards bill is being voted on in parliament.

Please write to your MP and request they vote against the bill to stop
it becoming law and everyone being required to pay (up to £300) for the
governments permission to exist.

Write to: (your MPs Name) MP, House Of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA

We must stop this. The government is there to serve us.
They need to be reminded of this. They have no mandate for this:
only 22% of the electorate voted for this government and its policies.
78% of the people of this country do not support this government.
They have no authority to do this. No government has authority to do this.

Below are further actions that can be taken right now to help stop this.

As the Second Reading of the Identity Cards Bill approaches, NO2ID have
initiated a pledge for those who will resist compulsory registration for
a State-issued ID card. This is the first in a series of pledges
intended to demonstrate the depth and breadth of opposition to the
proposals BEFORE the legislation makes it through Parliament. Speed is
therefore of the essence.

Please, if you can, make your pledge at
<http://www.pledgebank.com/refuse>http://www.pledgebank.com/refuse
and pass on or promote this message/link to as many sympathetic people
and groups, mailing lists, bulletin boards and publications (why not
write a letter to your local paper?) as you can *without spamming*. To
spread the message further PledgeBank provide flyers and posters to
print out, and people can also pledge by texting 'pledge refuse' to
60022 [standard text rate]. N.B. if you prefer to keep your online
pledge private, simply uncheck the 'Show my name on this pledge' box
before signing.

Our first pledge and target is as follows:
"I will refuse to register for an ID card and donate £10 to a legal
defence fund but only if 10,000 other people will also make this same
pledge."

Polls have shown for some time that 3 - 4 million people across the UK
strongly oppose the Government's plans to introduce ID cards and a
National Identity Register. The most recent polls indictate that almost 45%
of the public are now against the ID plan as more people are becoming aware
of what it really involves. 3 - 4 million people refusing to cooperate and
the scheme would be doomed to failure.

So now is the time to do everything we can to stop this ID plan happening!
If the Government do manage to force through the ID cards legislation,
this pledge will not only demonstrate the level of solidarity amongst
opponents of the scheme - it will form the basis of a fighting fund* and
support network for all those who refuse to comply.

NO2ID continues to campaign against the introduction of ID cards and the
National Identity Register on all fronts, for more information on what you
can do NOW, please visit <http://www.no2id.net/>www.no2id.net

HOW TO PERSUADE YOUR MP

If you have an MP that supports the governments ID plan and justifies his
position by quoting the government propaganda that claims that 80% of the
public are in favour of it (the ID plan).

Here is a way to disprove the '80% in favour of ID' claim, and after having
successfully done so you can ask your pro ID MP to revise his position. And
if the survey suggests the ID plan has extreme unpopularity
within a pro ID MPs constituency, then the MP will be reminded his chances
of re-election will be reduced when his constituents discover he supported
the hated ID legislation they are having forced onto them!

Randomly select a road in his constitiuency (sticking a pin in a map is as
good a way as any).

Then take a copy of the no2id petition (or write out your own) to all the
properties in that randomly selected road, explain what the governments
ID plan really involves and if they disagree with it, ask would they be
prepared to sign the petition to say so.

If you can get 80% of the roads properties to sign against the ID plan
you have proof that 80% of a randomly selected section of people within your
MPs constitiuency oppose the ID plan. Which is the exact opposite of the level
of support the government claims it has (you may get 100% to sign against it
which is even better)

Either way the point is made, and the random surveys signed petition is proof.
You then send a copy of the signed survey petition to your MP with a letter
explaining why you carried out the random survey, and how it was done, listing
the name of the road chosen, the total number of properties in it and the
percentage of properties opposing ,supporting or neutral to the issue, and the
conclusion (what it proved).

This will be convincing as an investigation into the governments claim of such
high support for it's ID card plan. And will be feasible for any individual to
carry out alone as it involves a relatively small number of people to contact.
(although to explain in detail the most disturbing contents of the governments
draft ID bill can take a little while) but guaranteed to convince any sane
person to oppose it (the ID plan).

Then all you have to do is present the evidence of your survey to your pro
ID MP
(in writing or by taking it to him in person).
