THE G8, GLOBALISATION AND SWEATSHOPS

A MEETING TO LAUNCH A NEW PAMPHLET AND PLAN ACTION AT THE G8 IN JULY

MEETING: WEDNESDAY 22ND JUNE 7.30PM
FRIENDS MEETING HOUSE , MOUNT STREET, MANCHESTER

As the UK hosts the G8 we are hearing increasingly loud words, even from the
Government, about the need to help Africa and to tackle poverty. But many of
the policies that are being outlined by the leaders of the G8 nations are
the same policies that have brought disaster, poverty and inequality to vast
chunks of the globe.

This new pamphlet brings together views from campaigners within No Sweat
along with hard facts and detailed argument to take on the proponents of
modern, globalised capital and to provide a guide to understanding some of
the issues surrounding the proliferation of sweatshops and poverty, the
problems facing Africa and how working people are already organising to
overcome these problems.

The meeting will discuss these issues and how we can make sure our voices
are heard at the G8 summit.

No Sweat is a UK-based anti-sweatshop campaign. We build direct action and
practical links of solidarity to help workers from around the world confront
their bosses and change their own lives for the better.

We have worked to take on sweatshops in London's East End and have
fundraised, twinned unions and brought speaker tours to the UK, and
exchanged visiting groups overseas, to help workers organising in countries
like Iraq, Indonesia, Haiti and Mexico.
